"Friends of Shipe Park" present the Shipe Pool Summer Opening Party, and Rally to Save Our Pool!

As Austin neighborhood groups rally to save our city pools, the folks at "Friends of Shipe Park" are having a Party, and a Rally to Save the Pool, at the same time! This Saturday, June 25th from 4-6 pm.

Sponsored by the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association, it's the annual summer opening party featuring live music, burgers (both meat and vegetarian), pot luck dishes, snow cones, and much more.

The kids will have plenty of room to play. The park has a play scape, swings, a basket ball court, tennis courts and of course a swimming pool. Don't forget the little ones, because we have a wading pool too!

Shipe Park is located at 4400 Avenue G, Austin TX 78751, in the middle of the lovely Hyde Park neighborhood. Shipe Pool will be the focal point of the festivities.

Party attendees will also get a sneak peak at the new Shipe Park Mosaic Mural Project. For those of you who don't know, the mural will be a permanent fine arts installation on the pump house wall.

The rally portion of the day is going to be a show of support for all neighborhood parks and pools facing closure from city budget cuts. The goal of the rally will be to raise awareness of the proposal to close eight neighborhood pools across the city next summer.

You will be invited to sign a petition, join the committee to save the  pool, and of course celebrate Shipe Pool as a cherished neighborhood resource and center of our community.

So come on down and bring your ideas on how to keep Shipe Pool and all our Austin pools and parks open for future generations, and join us for a really great time!

**"Friends of Shipe Park" is a group of volunteers and neighborhood leaders dedicated to maintaining and improving Shipe Park and Pools. Formed in 2008, the group has organized large scale volunteer efforts to benefit Shipe Park and has raised tens of thousands of dollars for park improvements and beautification efforts including the Shipe Park Mosaic Mural.
